The reason for laminating materials together is for comprehensive strength, rigidity and further stability in the final piece. A stiffer neck is desired in all situations. It restores the strings vibrations rather than wicking off sustain. A stiffer neck is less affected by alternate string tunings. This is logical, if the truss rod is over tweaked to keep a flimsier neck straight, and the strings are then slacked for a DADGAD or other like tuning, the truss rod will unbalance the neck straightness inconveniently. So a better situation is a stiffer overall neck.
